Newport Philharmonic Choir emerged out of the choir formed for the National Eisteddfod which came to Newport in 1988. In a typical year it performs three main concerts:
  • a light concert of short items in Spring ,
  • a major work with orchestra in Autumn,
  • a Christmas concert,
    and various performances for local charities or civic functions.
    		• The conductor is Guy Harbottle and accompanist David Martyn Jones. A mixed choir of about 80 members, it has developed a wide repertoire of musical styles, and sung in many languages (including Welsh, of course). In recent years a close friendship has developed with the German choir, Oratorienchor Heidenheim.
    The choir rehearses every Tuesday evening at Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd, Hartridge Farm Lane, Newport from 7.15 to 9.15 and new members are always welcome to apply. Many of our supporters also choose to become Patrons - learn more about becoming a Patron.
